Background Information:

Ryan Lawrence
BSc.(Kin), BEd., OCT, PGA of Canada Class “A”
Director of Instruction, Elmira Golf Club

Raised in Waterloo, ON, Ryan has always had a passion for golf. First learning to play at the Waterloo Golf Academy at a young age, Ryan quickly developed a lifelong interest in the game.

Ryan’s journey to becoming a PGA of Canada Class “A” member is a unique one. He first received a Bachelor of Science (Kinesiology) degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and then went on to get his Bachelor of Education degree from Western University. After a couple of years teaching in schools, Ryan decided to pursue his PGA of Canada Class “A” designation. Fast forward to now and Ryan still supply teaches for the WRDSB during the off season and teaches golf lessons throughout the golf season as the Director of Instruction for the Elmira Golf Club.

Teaching Philosophy:

Ryan has a strong passion for teaching and helping his students reach their goals. With his background as an educator, Ryan has developed the necessary interpersonal skills to help his students succeed.

“My goal as an instructor is simple - I want to give my students the knowledge and tools necessary to become a better player. Whether it is a new golfer, season veteran, or a skilled player, I pride myself on providing professional instruction to golfers of all skill levels.”

With the combination of modern technology (including video analysis/foresight GC3 launch monitor) and traditional teaching techniques, Ryan can help you improve your game. He will guide you through staged instruction which will allow you to gain the building blocks and knowledge required to play better golf and have more fun doing it. Testimonials:

Ryan has been an amazing teacher! He has been very encouraging and patient teaching us the skills we need. I had golfed once or twice before and found it discouraging. I now find it fun and enjoyable to play golf and look forward to playing again. Golf is much more enjoyable once you learn the basics from Ryan.
- Dirk and Lisa Molenaar

I had the privilege of learning golf from Ryan at Elmira Golf Club as a beginner. Ryan's patient and personalized instruction made the complexities of golf accessible. He's the ideal instructor for anyone looking to start or refine their golf journey. If you're seeking an instructor who can turn your golfing dreams into a reality, look no further than Ryan.
 - Yang Wang

I took golf lessons many years ago somewhere else and quickly became overwhelmed and gave up. I am glad I decided to give golf another try - Ryan made the difference! I took lessons all season and enjoyed every minute. I am now playing on the course with confidence and having so much fun. I will continue to take lessons with Ryan - his tips and videos are fantastic!
- Sandy MacKinlay

When I decided that I wanted to learn to play golf at 78 years old my wife insisted I get a professional coach. She suggested I call Ryan!
I found Ryan to be very knowledgeable. His instruction methods included demonstrations followed by teaching you to duplicate what he does taking into account my age. I am very happy with the knowledge I now have and feel competent enough to get out on the golf course and practice what I learned.
He has excellent teaching skills with attention to detail as appropriate. Thank you, Ryan.
-   Andrew Bell

I decided to take a few lessons with Ryan a year and a half ago, improvement in my game had stalled and I was a 10 handicap and had been for a few years. I noticed the results right away; I was hitting the ball a lot further and more consistently after just one lesson. Fast forward to today and I’m down to a 4 handicap and have never felt better about my golf game.
-  Adam McDonnell

“If you are looking for someone to help you with your game, we highly recommend lessons with Ryan Lawrence.  Ryan is a natural teacher with an abundance of enthusiasm that made each lesson a positive experience. He provided many personalized drills and swing thoughts that helped us understand our golf swing and improved our game from tee to green.”
-  John & Kristen Donald

Ryan has a genuine passion for the game of golf and especially when it comes to teaching. His approach of combining today's technology with traditional approaches is a winning combination.  I would sincerely recommend golfers of all skill levels to contact Ryan.
-  Gary Shaw

The two sets of lessons I had with Ryan in the last year have been game-changers for me.  The terrible slice I had is almost non-existent.  I have added 20+ yards to each iron.  He has such a pleasant approach to instruction.  Looking forward to my short-game lessons this spring!
-  Rob Quinton

Ryan provided me with excellent staged instruction on changes needed in my golf swing to allow me to achieve much better performance and enjoyment of my golfing experience. His thorough and professional presentation of the essential elements needed in improving my golf swing and the practice segments needed to achieve these allowed me to proceed with confidence and achieve great results. Many thanks, Ryan.
-   Len Griffiths

Ryan identified a swing flaw causing over the top swing path very quickly and we worked on it over the 4 weeks.  Improvement transferred to the course on my golf trip with 5 rounds in the 80’s compared to previous rounds in the mid 90’s.  I recommend Ryan’s approach to teaching fundamental building blocks and not trying to change everything at once.
-  Paul Botting

Ryan truly enjoys watching people get better. He explains your swing in sections and always asks you “how are you going to remember that so you can repeat it?”  He seems genuinely happy when you hit a poor shot so you can tell him what went wrong.
When I walked into our last session Ryan greeted me with,
“Okay! I kept watching the videos of your swing from last session and I know what we are going to work on.”
He was prepared for the lesson and that really impressed me.
Ryan is a great teacher and anyone struggling to get better should reach out to him.
-  Andy Campbell

Highly Recommend!
In order to get my game to the next level, I reached out to Ryan mid-season. We made some very minor changes that saw some big improvements on the course. Through the off-season we have made some bigger changes, but Ryan broke it down and made it very easy to work on small pieces without doing anything major all at once. I have seen increased distance, straighter ball flight and looking forward to putting the work in to get my handicap down.
I look forward to continuing working with Ryan in my goal of becoming a scratch golfer.
